Indian wicketkeeper and batter Sanju Samson showed his class with the bat during the first T20I in Durban. The 29-year-old raced to his fifty from a mere 27 balls as he hit South African spinner Nqabayomzi Peter for two successive sixes in the eighth over of the Indian innings.
The first six came in the second ball of the over with Peter dropping the balls short. Samson rocked onto his backfoot and pulled the ball deep into the stands. With this six the Indian batting star moved to 44 runs. In the very next ball, Peter dropped the ball even shorter and the outcome was the same.

This time though the ball traveled deeper into the stands for a even bigger six. It was yet another fifty for Samson who had scored a memorable century in the last game against Bangladesh. The 29-year-old has been in terrific form with the bat for India in the T20I format ever since he has got a chance to open the batting.
Sanju Samson hoping to silence critics during South Africa tour
2024 has been a mixed bag year for Sanju Samson as he was part of the T20 World Cup winning side. The 29-year-old didn’t get to play a game during the tournament and wasn’t considered for the final in the last minute. After a bad series in Sri Lanka, the last series against Bangladesh marked the resurgence of Samson.
Former Indian skipper Anil Kumble during his chat with Jio Cinema had said “There have been talks about keeping him in the team and his recent hundred against Bangladesh will certainly help him. We know his ability as a batter and he is a class act”
Anil Kumble also said “Consistency is a big issue with him and I think the selection committee is aware of this concern. Placing him in the top order and making him bat as an opener or giving him a chance at number three or four is the right approach. You can maximize his potential. He has got a plenty of time against the pacers and he can be devastating in front of the spinners. It will be intresting to see how he handles the pressure in four matches against South Africa”
Samson scored a brilliant century for India the last time he was in South Africa. That century though came during the ODI series which India won. Samson will be hoping yo continue his amazing form and score big during the tour of South Africa.
