Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) batters faltered while chasing the huge target of 237 runs needed to win set by Punjab Kings (PBKS) on Sunday night. West Indian star Nicholas Pooran, who had done the bulk of scoring with the bat for LSG this year, was out after scoring just six runs.
Arshdeep Singh had accounted for both LSG openers to give the home team a great start with the ball. Nicholas Pooran came out to bat at number three and played a flowing shot for four to signal his intent. India’s left-arm seamer rapped the batter on his pads and the umpire was quick to raise his finger.
Pooran decided to review the decision in the hope that the height might save him. The TV umpire, though, saw the ball crashing onto the stumps and asked the on-field umpire to stick with the ball. Just as Pooran was making his way off the park, the cameras panned to LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka sporting a heartbreaking look on his face.
Punjab Kings were put into bat first and made the most of the pitch and scored 236 on the board. Prabhsimran Singh smashed the LSG bowlers to all parts of the ground to score 91 runs from just 48 balls. Shreyas Iyer batted with aggression to hit 45 off 25 balls, while Shashank Singh gave the final push with the bat, scoring 33 off 15 balls.

Australian opener Mitchell Marsh was out after scoring a duck off just five balls. Marsh tried to hit Arshdeep over the top but found Nehal Wadhera settle under the ball and take a neat catch. While LSG players were shoddy in the park, PBKS players were very efficient in their ground fielding and catching.
Aiden Markram inside edged the ball back onto his stumps to give Arshdeep his second wicket of the day. Markram nearly smashed his bat in frustration as he was out after scoring 13 runs from 10 balls. It was a huge wicket for PBKS, as the South African star has been one of the most consistent batters for LSG this season.
Rishabh Pant, who has been woefully short of form, scored 18 runs from 17 balls. Pant gave Azmatullah Omarzai the charge and lost his bat in the process while Shashank Singh took a smart catch. David Miller followed soon after as the same bowler and field duo dismissed the South African for 11 runs from eight balls.
