Cricketing record books saw the entry of a new name in the form of Darius Visser after the Samoa versus Vanuatu game on Tuesday. Samoan wicket-keeper and batter Darius Visser scored 39 runs off a single over to create a new record. The record came during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup East Asia-Pacific qualifier game on Tuesday.

Yuvraj Singh held the previous record when he smashed 36 runs in a single over. The left-handed batting great had hit Stuart Broad for six huge sixes during the India vs England game in Durban during the 2007 T20 World Cup.

Darius Visser established the new record when he hit Nalin Nipiko for 39 runs during the 15th over of the Samoan innings. The 29-year-old year went on to score 132 from a mere 62 balls as Samoa won the game by 10 runs.

Samoan star breaks long-standing record

Darius Visser was batting on 46 when he took strike against Nalin Nipiko in the 15th over. The first two balls of the over were bowled short as Visser pulled it deep into the stands for two huge sixes.

Nalin Nipiko bowled yet another short ball and for the third time, Darius Visser hit it deep into the stands for a six. During his hitting spree, the Samoan star had also gone past his half-century.

The 29-year-old Darius Visser didn’t manage to run a single as Nipiko bowled a waist-high full toss which was called no-ball. The resulting free hit was Visser making his way outside off stump to hit his 4th six in a row. Nipiko bowled a slower ball that saw Visser play out a dot ball.

The final ball of the over saw Nalin Nipiko bowl a no-ball as the backward point fielder stopped the batters from taking a single. One more full toss was bowled in the free hit which Darius Visser hit for a huge six. The umpire had no hesitation in calling it a no-ball to give Samoa yet another free hit.

Having scored 33 runs from 5 balls, the record set by Yuvraj Singh was within reach. After Daruis Visser deposited a low full toss for yet another six, the new record was set as Daruis Visser took his score to 82 before eventually falling for 132.
