Australia's debutant Sam Konstas has shown why the selectors trusted him to open in the fourth Test match against India in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024. The newcomer started his Test career by attempting unorthodox shots against Jasprit Bumrah in the third over of the game. Much to everyone's surprise, Konstas was successful in his attempt in the sixth over, scoring 14 runs off Bumrah with reverse scoops.

The sheer audacity and intent of the 19-year-old player were evident in the game as he was confident enough to play those unorthodox shots against Bumrah, the best bowler in the World. On the fifth ball of the seventh over, he moved across his stumps to go for the conventional scoop. However, the ball was a bit wider, which made him change the shot to a reverse scoop. The ball went towards the third man and just bounced in front of the boundary ropes.

The courage Konstas showed in his first Test match is commendable. The way Australia are batting at the moment, it seems like another high-scoring game is right around the corner. Everything depends upon the Indian bowlers now.

Take the game on, have fun: Pat Cummins

It looks like Sam Konstas took Pat Cummins' advice quite seriously in the fourth game, as he's just enjoying his batting out there at the MCG. Before the start of the game, Cummins imparted knowledge to the 19-year-old regarding how he should play in his debut game, and it turned out to be great.

"I spent a bit of time wondering why or how I was there, how it had happened so quickly. I just remember being really excited and it's similar to Sammy this week. There's a level of naivety that you just want to go out and play like you do when you are a kid in the backyard - take the game on, have fun, and not overthink it," said Pat Cummins.
