Puneri Bappa and Ratnagiri Jets are currently in action in the ongoing 11th match of the Maharashtra Premier League 2024 at the MCA Stadium in Pune. The star India batter Ruturaj Gaikwad is leading the Puneri Bappa squad in the current edition of the tournament. Skipper Gaikwad won the toss and decided to bat first.

Besides an ‘average’ score of 144 runs scored by Puneri Bappa in the first innings, losing all the wickets, what attracted the eyeballs was an ‘unfortunate’ and ‘unprecedented’ dismissal of Bappa’s skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad in the first innings.

The incident happened on the first ball of the 12th over in the first innings when Gaikwad decided to run for the ‘second run’; he ended up reaching the striker’s end at the time but in an ‘unfortunate’ turnaround of events, the middle-order batter had lost his contact with the bat and at the same time, the wicketkeeper had removed the bails off with the ball.

Later, the decision of ‘run out’ was referred to the TV umpire and it eventually went against Ruturaj Gaikwad as his bat and hands were not in contact at the time of the ball hitting the stumps. The video of this ‘unexpected run-out moment’ with Ruturaj Gaikwad also made rounds on social media as soon as it was shared on X (formerly Twitter) by the official broadcasters of the tournament.
