WATCH: Rovman Powell comes up with superman effort to dismiss Faf Du Plessis in IPL 2024 Eliminator

Kolkata Knight Riders became the first team to reach the finals of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 on Tuesday. The game on Wednesday between Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bengaluru is to determine which teams win the game plays Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 2nd qualifier match on Friday. 

Faf Du Plessis who has been in prime form with the bat this season was looking to keep his good run going. Trent Boult though had other ideas as he had the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) dismissed in the 5th over of the game.

With the score reading 37, Trent Boult bowled a short ball which didn’t rise much. Faf Du Plessis went for a pull shot only to spot the ball going towards Rovman Powell. The West Indian star dove in front and took a low catch to dent RCB with their first blow of the day. 

Rajasthan Royals strike two big blows 

Royal Challengers Bengaluru had come into the game on the back of their 27-run win over Chennai Super Kings. That win was enough for the RCB side to make it to the playoffs as the 4th placed side in the table. 

Virat Kohli and Faf Du Plessis began slowly as Trent Boult in particular maintained a tight line and length. Sandeep Sharma entrusted with the new ball was smashed for 25 runs from his first overs. 

With runs not coming easily, the RCB openers started to go hard after the bowlers. After the fall of the RCB skipper, Virat Kohli tried to keep the runs coming. The introduction of former Bengaluru spinner Yuzvendra Chahal changed the game. 

Virat Kohli went for a huge hit only to see Donovan Ferreira settle under the ball and dismiss the former RCB skipper for 33. This was a huge blow for the RCB team as Kohli has already scored over 700 runs this season. 

Earlier in the day it was Sanju Samson who won the toss and chose to bowl first because of the dew in the wicket. KKR had easily chased down the 160 runs needed to win inside 14 overs to staple their names as the first finalists of the season.
