Indian cricket skipper Rohit Sharma was attending an event recently in Maharashtra. The 37-year-old got a massive reception days after beating Bangladesh by 2-0 margin in the Test series. The announcer was seen heaping praise on Rohit as the Indian star stood and raked in the applause.

During the course of the event, the presenter said in Marathi “We want to see one more World Cup trophy”. The presenter also went on to add that Rohit should be the captain during the 2027 ODI World Cup. South Africa are set to host the event in 2027 along with Zimbabwe and Namibia.

Rohit will be well past 40 years old but considering his fitness level one cannot count him out. The 37-year-old has already led India to the T20 World Cup title and has been lauded for his brave captaincy during the recent Test series.

Rohit Sharma opens up about Kanpur Test win

India’s win in the Kanpur Test against Bangladesh came despite the game being massively interrupted due to rain. The home team decided to bat aggressively in their 1st innings to score 285/8 from 34.4 overs. Bangladesh set India 95 runs to win in the 2nd innings which they did with 7 wickets to spare.

Rohit spoke to BCCI at the end of the game and said “I have been out there enough to trust my judgements on what I do. The decisions that I take on the field, I then go by it. Obviously, there are players around me who are open to giving suggestions but, at the end of the day, I trust my mind and my judgement and that's all that matters when you are playing”

India’s skipper also added “At highest level, you need to have a bit of everything. You need to be calm to take decisions wisely, you need to take a lot of decisions and not every decision will go your way but you have to back it and use your experience and knowledge, that is what I do,"

The 37-year-old also said “We had to take risks to get a result. I know the result could have gone either way but I was ok with it, and so was the coach and the other players. You have to be brave enough to take those decisions and go and play that way. When things fall in place, everything looks good and that is where, it can change very quickly when things don't fall in place. Everybody would have started criticising the decision we took and all of that. But what matters is what we think inside this changing room and that is what matters."
