Indian skipper Rohit Sharma’s shocking run of form with the bat continued during day two of the MCG Test match on Friday. The 37-year-old was out to Pat Cummins for just 3 runs after reverting back to his favorite opening slot. Cummins bowled a short ball that Rohit tried to pull. Indian skipper couldn’t time the ball well as Scott Boland settled under the ball and took an easy catch.

With his latest failure, Rohit Sharma has scored a total of 22 runs from the 4 innings he has batted so far. In the first Test, Rohit scored 3 and 6 before adding 10 more runs in the only innings he batted in Brisbane. The latest failure will start to put more pressure on the veteran batter who has been undergoing the worst patch of form so far.

Fans will also question the decision to open the batting after KL Rahul’s amazing show so far. Rahul came to bat at number 3 in the order having replaced Shubman Gill with the latter being rested for the game. India are under huge pressure to win the game and the series and have already conceded a massive 474 in the first innings. This is the third time Cummins has dismissed Rohit Sharma having got India's skipper out in Adelaide and Brisbane.

Steve Smith century lights up huge first innings total for Australia

Australian batters dominated India’s lackluster bowling attack to amass a huge total on the board. The star with the bat for the hosts was Steve Smith who notched up his 34th Test ton on Friday. Smith also scored his 11th Ton against India the most by any batter and also the tenth in Border Gavaskar Trophy.

Pat Cummins took the early initiative by attacking India’s bowlers to score 49 runs. Aussie skipper went for a huge shot when on 49 only to see Nitish Reddy take a neat catch. Ravindra Jadeja struck in the third ball after lunch to castle Mitchell Starc for 15 runs.

Akash Deep then got a lucky wicket when Smith was bowled for 140 runs after having played 197 balls. Scott Boland twice survived LBW Calls as his last wicket stand with Nathan Lyon yielded 19 runs before the Aussie spinner was the last man out for 13. Jasprit Bumrah was the best bowler for India with 4/99 to take his series tally to 25 wickets.
