Bangladeshi bowlers kept Indian batters on a tight leash after the initial assault from Rohit Sharma in the early overs of the second innings of their clash in the Champions Trophy 2025. Later on, KL Rahul had a huge slice of luck when he was dropped by Jaker Ali on the second ball of the 37th over of the innings. Once the catch was dropped, Rohit had a huge grin on his face with his hands on his head.

Taskin Ahmed bowled a short ball to Rahul, who pulled it deep on the leg-side boundary. Jaker Ali had the ball under his control for a while but spilt the catch, much to the shock of his teammates. Taskin, who started to celebrate, looked in shock as a huge moment in the game had gone in India’s favour.

At that stage, India were 166/4, still needing 62 runs from 83 balls. This, however, was not the first dropped chance of the game. Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya were guilty of dropping easy catches. Rohit had let down a chance that cost Axar Patel his hat trick. Hardik Pandya then put down Towhid Hridoy, who went on to score a century.

Shubman Gill continues his purple patch with the bat

Chasing 229 to win, Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill added 69 runs for the first wicket. The Indian skipper reached 11,000 runs in ODI cricket before falling for 41 runs from 36 balls with seven hits to the fence. Virat Kohli scored 22 off 38 balls before he was dismissed by Rishad Hossain.

India’s former skipper’s issues against leg-spin came to the fore once again after being dismissed by Adil Rashid twice in succession recently. Shreyas Iyer scored 15 off 17 balls but played a careless shot and Najmul Shanto settled under the ball and took a neat catch. Axar Patel was the fourth wicket to fall for eight runs.

Earlier in the day, Bangladesh were all out for 228 in the final over of the innings. At one stage, Najmul Shanto and his side were placed at 35/5 with Indian bowlers running riot. Mohammed Shami picked 5/53 and also went past 200 wickets in ODI cricket.
