Indian skipper Rohit Sharma was under the pump after his side put up a dismal show with the bat on Thursday. The home team was bowled out for just 46 runs against New Zealand as Matt Henry grabbed a fifer. Devon Conway led the Kiwis to an aggressive start as he was out for 90 to give his side the much-needed impetus.

Rohit Sharma was seen losing his temper on the second day at one of his players. The 37-year-old was caught abusing on the stump mic as he was trying to gather the attention of his players. Sarfaraz Khan had to take the brunt of Rohit's anger as he was out of position while fielding.

The Indian skipper had chosen to bat first after winning the toss. The move backfired as only Rishabh Pant and Yashasvi Jaiswal reached double figures. To add more misery, Pant went off the field injured towards the end of 2nd day due to an injury to his knee.

Armed with a three-figure lead, New Zealand came out to bat with Daryl Mitchell and Rachin Ravindra. It was Mohammed Siraj who gave India their 1st wicket of the day. The 30-year-old got the wicket of Mitchell caught by Jaiswal for 18. Jasprit Bumrah was then struck when he had the scalp of Tom Blundell for 5 caught by KL Rahul.

Ravindra Jadeja got two wickets to help India come back into the contest. Jadeja got Glenn Phillips out bowled for 14 off 18 balls. The left-arm then got Matt Henry out for 8 as the Kiwis were placed at 233/7. Rachin Ravindra hit Kuldeep Yadav for four to reach well and played well fifty.

During the press conference, Rohit Sharma said, “Rahul is a local boy. So he has to bat at 3? After a long time, KL Rahul has found a spot at No. 6. We want to make him bat there. The experienced players are the ones who have to take up more responsibility. This time, it was Virat. He was the one who was ready to do that.”

The Indian skipper also said, “We asked him whether he could bat at No. 3. Sarfaraz, we also wanted to give him the position that he usually bats -- 4, 5 and 6. We didn't want to change Rishabh and KL. Hence, Sarfaraz went at No. 4, and Virat batted at No. 3. It's a good sign. Players coming up and taking responsibility and owning up to the challenge. It's a good sign.”
