Pant was batting on 99 when he hit the bowler for a six and then reached his century. The 27-year-old removed his helmet and celebrated with Gill before removing his gloves to perform the backflip celebration just like he had done in the IPL 2025 game between Lucknow and Bengaluru.

It is to be noted that this is Pant’s second successive century in England in the Test format. Pant, had scored 146 runs in the rescheduled Test match that was played in 2022 at the Edgbaston stadium. The Indian wicketkeeper had started the day on 65 and scored his first runs of the day with a boundary to move to 69.

Shoaib Bashir ends Shubman Gill’s knock

Starting the day at 359 for 3, Indian cricket saw off the first hour of play with ease. Shubman Gill played few amazing shots which included a drive that pierced the field and went speeding to the fence for four runs. Both Pant and Gill didn’t look troubled as they milked the English bowlers for runs to put pressure on Ben Stokes.

The fourth wicket stand between Gill and Pant was worth 209 runs which came off 296 balls. Gill was batting on 147 runs when he tried to clear the field and only managed to hole out to Brydon Carse to give Shoaib Bashir his first wicket of the day. Gill scored his runs off 227 balls with 19 fours and one solitary six.

Headingley is set to witness some showers during the second half of the day as there is a yellow alert being sounded by the Met department. Gautam Gambhir will be hoping that his batters can put up a huge score on the board on a wicket which looks great for batting.
