Team India took on Sri Lanka in a must win game to keep their hopes alive in the Women’s T20 World Cup game on Wednesday. India won the toss and chose to bat first and scored a massive 127 on the board. Radha Yadav who came in as the substitute fielder took an amazing catch to give their 1st wicket of the day.

Renuka Singh Thakur was bowling to Vishmi Gunaratne as the Lankan opener went for a huge shot. With the ball high in the air, Radha Yadav had a lot of ground to cover. The Indian star put in a huge dive and completed the catch as Gunaratne was out for a duck.

Team India has to win the game by a margin of 45 runs and more to go into the spot. The margin of win will also mean that they will have a much better run-rate than New Zealand who had lost to Australia in their last game.

Smriti Mandhana and Harmanpreet Kaur lead India’s charge with the bat

Opting to bat first, Indian openers Shafali Varma and Smriti Mandhana added 96 runs for the 1st wicket. That stand came up in 12.4 overs as the two Indian batters dominated the Lankan bowling unit. Smriti Mandhana scored 50 runs off 38 balls with 4 fours and a six before being run out.

Shafali Varma scored 43 off 40 balls but perished to Chamari Attapattu. Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur was not out on 52 off 27 balls with 8 fours and a six. Jemimah Rodrigues scored a quick 16 to help India score 172 from their 20 overs.

After losing Vishmi Gunaratne the Lankans lost skipper skipper Athapaththu for 1 to Shreyanka Patil. Renuka Singh then got her 2nd wicket when she had Harshita Samarawickrama out for 3 caught behind by Richa Ghosh. At the stage the Lankans were placed at 6/3 inside the 3rd over.

Speaking at the toss Harmanpreet Kaur said “: We gonna bat first, so far we haven't batted first so thought we will have a bat and put a decent total on the board. Feeling better (talking about her neck injury), if we play better cricket maybe I will feel more better”
