Prithvi Shaw helped India win the Under-19 World Cup in 2018. The same year, Shaw made his Test debut and scored a century against West Indies in his very first innings. After a stellar start to his Test career, Shaw’s performance began to fall. The right-handed batter played his last Test in 2020 during the day and night game in Australia.

His last appearance for India was in 2021 during the tour of Sri Lanka for the ODI and T20I series. Since then, the 25-year-old has been playing for Mumbai and has failed to show consistency with the bat. Due to fitness concerns, Shaw was dropped for the Ranji matches against Tripura and Odisha.

Greg Chappell writes emotional message to Prithvi Shaw

Former India coach and Australian cricket legend Greg Chappell had written an emotional message for Shaw. The message read, “Hi Prithvi, I understand you're facing a challenging time right now, being out of the Mumbai team. It's natural to feel frustrated and perhaps a bit uncertain, but I want you to know that these moments are often the turning points for athletes, helping to shape both their careers and their character."

Greg Chappell also wrote, “I remember watching you play for India's under-19 team, where you showcased an extraordinary talent and a spark that made it clear you were among the most exciting young cricketers of your time. Those of us who recognize your potential are still keenly watching your journey, knowing that the best is yet to come."

The ex-Australian legend had words of advice and encouragement for Prithvi Shaw as he wrote, “Even legends like Don Bradman experienced being dropped and having to fight their way back. What made them great was not avoiding challenges, but how they responded to them. Take care of your body, get the right amount of rest, and build the strength and focus you need. The door back to the Indian team is open if you're willing to walk through it, but it takes a commitment to growth and change.”
