Pakistan skipper and star wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan displayed amazing athleticism in the ongoing first ODI of the tri-nation series. The men in green are taking on New Zealand in the series opener at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. The visiting skipper Mitchell Santner won the toss and asked his batters to take the charge first.

Shaheen Shah Afridi came up with the first over for the hosts and gave the first blow to the Kiwis in the first over only. It was the fourth ball of the first over when Shaheen trapped Will Young in a confusion of going backwards for forward to execute his approach on the ball.

But the New Zealand batter ended up opening his bat’s face and nicked it towards the gloves of the Pakistan skipper Mohammad Rizwan. The wicketkeeper made no mistake in executing an amazing catch, diving to his extreme right, dismissing Will Young early at the individual score of just 4 runs, including a four.

Speaking of the current action of the game in the tri-series opener, New Zealand had scored 54 runs for the loss of 2 wickets in 13 overs. Former skipper Kane Williamson and star middle-order batter Daryl Mitchell are there in the middle with the individual score of 22 runs and 1 run, respectively.

Shaheen Shah Afridi and Abrar Ahmed have scalped a wicket each for Pakistan; the defending Champions Trophy holders will also take on New Zealand in the tournament opener on February 20, at the National Stadium in Karachi.

Before that, Rizwan’s men will look ahead to win the ongoing home tri-nation series against New Zealand and South Africa. A win in this tournament will give a boost to their preparations ahead of the ninth edition of the Champions Trophy 2025.
