Star South Africa pacer Lungi Ngidi displayed sensational athleticism while fielding in the ongoing Champions Trophy 2025 game against England. He took an outstanding running catch to dismiss England's bowling all-rounder Jamie Overton in the 26th over of the first innings. Notably, SA are completely dominating the Three Lions in the current game at the National Stadium in Karachi.
Lungi Ngidi’s ‘outstanding fielding moment’ came on the third ball of the 26th over when Kagiso Rabada was bowling to Overton, who happened to chip it up towards the mid-on region. Initially, it looked like Overton would survive, but it was Ngidi who turned the tables in SA’s favour; he ran back, followed by diving forward to execute the stunning ‘running’ catch.
The video of this sensational running catch also made rounds on social media as soon as it was shared by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on their official Instagram handle.
Here’s the video:
Speaking of the action of the game between England and South Africa, the Proteas have completely established their dominance over the Englishmen. The SA bowlers have bundled out England at the score of just 179 runs in 38.2 overs. Former skipper and veteran batter Joe Root was the only batter to score 30+ individual scores, getting 37 runs off 44 balls, with 4 fours and a six. Besides him, Ben Duckett, Jos Buttler, and Jofra Archer played the 20-run+ individual knocks, scoring 24, 21, and 25 runs, respectively.
Star South Africa all-rounders Marco Jansen and Wiaan Mulder have scalped 3 wickets each for their side in the first innings, conceding just 39 and 25 runs in their 7 and 7.2 overs, respectively. Besides these two, Keshav Maharaj also scalped 2 wickets, alongside a wicket each picked by Lungi Ngidi and Kagiso Rabada.
Notably, South Africa has now officially qualified for the semi-finals. The other possible scenarios were nullified after England got bundled out at the score of 179 runs, which eliminated the miraculous chances of SA losing the game by 207+ runs for Afghanistan to reach the semi-finals.
