Mumbai Indians (MI) came up with tremendous start with the ball in the key IPL 2025 game against Delhi Capitals (DC). Chasing 181 to win, focus was on KL Rahul and Faf du Plessis who came out to open the innings. Trent Boult was given the first over and the veteran Kiwi seamer was hit for ten runs to give DC great start with the bat.
Boult had his revenge in his second over as he got the key wicket of Rahul in the fourth ball of the over. Rahul gave bowler the charge and attempted to play a big shot but only managed to get an edge of his bat. Ryan Rickelton dove in front and took a neat catch. The batter went back to the hut with disappoint written large on his face. Trent Boult had a huge smile on his face as Rahul was dismissed for 11 runs off six balls.
Axar Patel’s absence meant that Faf du Plessis was given the chance to lead the side. Mumbai Indians scored 180 on the board as the last two overs saw the home team score 48 runs. Suryakumar Yadav was the best batter for the home team with his 73 coming off 43 balls with seven boundaries and four sixes. Young Naman Dhir hit two fours and two sixes in his knock of 24 not out.
Deepak Chahar strikes massive early blow
Indian seamer Deepak Chahar bowling the second over got the wicket of DC skipper Faf du Plessis. The former South African star went for a huge hit off Chahar’s slower ball. Mitchell Santner standing in the boundary took a neat catch to give MI their first wicket.
As soon as Plessis hit the ball he knew his stint in the middle was over as Mumbai celebrated the huge wicket. Du Plessis was out after scoring just six runs which came off seven balls with one boundary off Trent Boult in the opening over.
Delhi Capitals bowlers who had done well early in the game saw their momentum taken away by Yadav and Dhir’s stand in the final few overs. Loss against MI will end their chances of making it to the top four stages of the league. This will be a cruel blow for DC who had led the table at one stage with four successive wins.
