Just like the men’s team, the Indian women’s team haven’t had a great week during their short tour of Australia. Smriti Mandhana and her poor form with the bat continued during the second ODI that was played on Sunday in Brisbane. Chasing a massive target of 372 to win, hopes were pinned on Mandhana to score big with the bat.

Kim Garth bowled a full ball on the middle and off-stump line, which Mandhana tried to drive. The Indian batter could manage an inside edge onto her bat and was castled for just 9 runs from 8 balls. India had lost the first match of the series as the hosts romped home to an easy win by eight wickets.

Earlier in the day, Australia won the toss and chose to bat first. The home side posted an imposing score of 371/8 from their 50 overs. This is the most runs conceded by the Indian women’s team in the fifty-over format so far.

Elyse Perry century leads Australia to huge total on the board

Batting first after winning the toss, Australian openers Phoebe Litchfield and Georgia Voll added 130 runs for the 1st wicket. The stand came in just 19.2 overs of play as India’s bowlers were left clueless. Both batters used the first powerplay well to score boundaries at will to keep the pressure on Indian bowlers.

Saima Thakor broke the stand when she dismissed Litchfield for 60 off 63 balls with 8 fours and a six. Elyse Perry and Voll then added 92 runs for the 2nd wicket as the stand was raised in 13 overs. Voll scored a terrific ton before falling for 101 runs off just 87 balls with 12 fours.

Elyse Perry got to her century from just 72 balls as the veteran Australian star showed no mercy on the bowlers. Deepti Sharma ended her brutal knock when she castled Perry for 105 runs. Perry’s knock came off mere 75 balls with 7 fours and six huge hits.

Beth Mooney joined in the fun as she scored 56 runs from just 44 balls with 8 hits to the fence. Indian bowlers limited the damage as they picked wickets at regular intervals. Skipper Tahlia McGrath’s 20 not out helped her side reach 371 on the board. Saima Thakor was the best bowler for India with 3/62 from her 10 overs.
