Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) ended their IPL 2025 season with a massive 110-run win over outgoing champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Sunday. Needing 279 runs to win the game, KKR were bowled out for 168 in the 19th over of the innings. Harshit Rana dropped for India’s tour of England combined well with veteran Manish Pandey to add 52 runs for the eighth wicket in 22 balls.
The pair came together when Ramandeep Singh was out for 13 to give Harsh Dubey his third wicket of the day. Rana began his onslaught by hitting Abhishek Sharma for one boundary and two sixes in the 15th over. Not to be outdone Manish Pandey hit seamer Eshan Malinga for three sixes to give KKR fans something to cheer about in the closing stages of the game.
Harshit Rana was the last man out when he went for a huge shot and Eshan Malinga settled under the ball to take the return catch. The 23-year-old was out after scoring 34 runs from 21 balls. The top scorer for KKR was Manish Pandey who hit 37 off 23 balls falling to Jaydev Unadkat.
SRH end losing streak against KKR to close out season on a high
The 110-run win for SRH was their first in five encounters against KKR putting an end to abysmal run against the current champions. Earlier this season, SRH had lost by 80 runs at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. This win also gives Hyderabad a respectable mid table finish after a woeful campaign.
KKR skipper Ajinkya Rahane speaking at the end of the game said, “I thought they batted really well, Yes, we made few errors while bowling, but the way they batted, they capitalised on all the loose balls and also hit all the good balls as well. Credit goes to SRH batters, their intent was really great.”
Rahane also added, “Throughout the season, we had our moments, we had our chances, 2-3 close games which we thought we didn't play well as a team, as a unit. Apart from that, we tried our best, we gave our best. A format like this, you got to be switched on every time. This format is really tough, this IPL is really tough.”
