Defending IPL champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) were set a huge target of 279 to win by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Sunday. Harsh Dubey, was drafted into the playing XI as the impact player and the left-arm spinner made in immediate impact. The 22-year-old first got rid of Rinku Singh for nine runs caught by Nitish Reddy in the fifth ball of the eighth over.
In the very next ball, Dubey trapped Andre Russell LBW for a golden duck. The batter was struck flush on his pads and the umpire didn’t have any doubt before raising his finger. Russell walked back to the hut without even reviewing the call. In a space of two balls, the complexion of the game had changed.
Earlier in the day, SRH batted first after winning the toss and posted 278 on the board. Heinrich Klaasen scored 105 not out from just 39 balls which was his second century in the IPL. The 33-year-old got to his century off just 37 which is the joint third-fastest century in IPL history.
Kolkata Knight Riders batters crumble yet again
Quinton de Kock and Sunil Narine came out with aggressive intent with 37 runs for the first wicket in just 21 balls. Narine scored 31 off just 16 balls with three boundaries and equal number of sixes. Jaydev Unadkat got SRH their first wicket when he rattled Narine’s leg-stump.
The left-arm seamer also got the wicket of Ajinkya Rahane for 15 runs from just eight balls with three hits to the fence. Quinton de Kock ended his season with yet another low score as he was dismissed for nine by Eshan Malinga caught by Abhinav Manohar. The left-handed wicketkeeper and batter had come in for Rahmanullah Gurbaz who was rested for the game.
With this loss, KKR will end up on eighth in the table with 12 points from their 14 games. SRH on the other hand finally got their revenge for the multiple losses they suffered at the hands of KKR including the final of IPL 2024 season.
