In the 1st Test match between Sri Lanka and New Zealand, Glenn Phillips's impressive delivery dismisses skipper Dhananjaya de Silva, who was playing on 11 runs. The batter was stunned to see the ball spin so much as it was a dream delivery for any off-spinner. The ball tossed and spun inside, where it nicked the bat and went straight to the stumps.

Phillips' one of the best deliveries in the history of the game sent the skipper back to the pavilion. De Silva couldn't be held accountable for the wicket, as the ball was unplayable. Day 1 of the first Test match was quite eventful as Sri Lanka won the toss and chose to bat first.

By stumps their score is 302 runs at the loss of seven wickets. While the start was a bit shaky due to the openers, the middle-order batters handled the game pretty well. Dinesh Chandimal and Angelo Mathews took the game to a good point before both were dismissed on 30 and 36 runs, respectively.

The main players were Kamindu Mendis who scored a century and Kusal Mendis who scored a half-century. For New Zealand, William O'Rourke claimed three wickets while Glenn Phillips was the man behind two important wickets of Sri Lanka.

Kamindu Mendis smashes gleaming century against mighty Kiwis

Sri Lanka's middle-order batter Kamindu Mendis smashed a beautiful century, helping the team reach a respectable score. In 173 balls, the player scored 114 runs including 11 boundaries. Apart from him, Kusal Mendis scored 50 runs off 68 balls including seven boundaries. Both batters became walking nightmares for the visitors as they weren't throwing their wickets away at a certain point.

The hosts have scored 302 runs which is a pretty good score against New Zealand on the first day. They still have three wickets left and if they'll add 40-50 runs more, a good total will be reached. Sri Lanka's game has improved a lot after the ODI series against India and then the last match victory in England. Now, their next target will be New Zealand and the hosts will look to whitewash the home series.
