India's skipper Rohit Sharma opted out of the fifth Test match against Australia which sparked several controversies related to the team's atmosphere. As per some reports, the news was forthcoming. It was a hard pill to swallow for many cricket fans who admire Rohit as a captain and a player. After the crushing defeat in the fourth Test match against Australia, head coach Gautam Gambhir was quite frustrated and unhappy with Rohit's captaincy.

Right before the toss, the head coach, Rohit and Jasprit Bumrah were spotted having an animated chat at SCG. Rohit was talking to Gambhir regarding something in an agitated manner while Bumrah was around, listening to them peacefully. This video went viral on social media as fans tried to decode the conversation between the players.

In the fifth Test match, Bumrah, who was named the captain, won the toss and chose to bat first which looked like a disaster for India. The team lost two quick wickets, putting the rest of the batters under pressure. Meanwhile, Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill are trying hard to settle down on the crease to rescue India from crisis.

India's qualification scenario for WTC 2025 finals

The fifth Test match in Sydney is an important game for India as their qualification scenarios depend solely on this game. Since Australia are already leading the series, 2-1, they are on the verge of qualifying for the WTC 2025 finals to play against South Africa. However, the tables might turn if India win the fifth game. Then, Australia will have to win a match in Sri Lanka. 

The competition is between three teams now, India, Australia and Sri Lanka. South Africa have booked their spot in the finals and are waiting for another team to join them.
