There are lots of questions being asked about India’s form after their disappointing loss to New Zealand in Bengaluru. One man has come under focus for his bad form with the bat and that is none other than KL Rahul. The 32-year-old scored just 12 runs in front of his home fans during the opening game against the Kiwis.

KL Rahul was seen touching the pitch at the end of the game as the two sides were walking away. Fans started to speculate if this was an indication that Rahul had played his final game for the national side. The right-handed batter has already lost his spot in the T20I and ODI formats.

Shubman Gill is set to return for the 2nd Test to be played in Pune starting on 24th October. Sarfaraz Khan’s century has ensured his spot in the team for the next game and there is a high possibility that Rahul could miss out. Before this game, the Bangalore lad had played 3 innings at his home venue and scored 3 fifties.

Rohit Sharma makes massive statement on KL Rahul’s future

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma addressed the media at the end of the game on Sunday. One of the questions raised was about Rahul’s inconsistent form seen in the last few games. The 32-year-old scored a fifty in the first innings of the Kanpur Test against Bangladesh before this game.

Rohit Sharma said, “Look, I am not the person who talks to individuals, after every game. They know where they stand in their game, where they stand in their career. We don't change our mindset based on one game, one series.”

The Indian skipper also said, “The messages are thrown at quite early, at the start, and they know exactly where they stand and what the situation is of the team. I don't think I am going to talk anything different from what I have been talking with them.”

Addressing the likely combination for the Pune Test, Rohit said, “It's pretty simple, anybody who gets an opportunity, will have to try and make an impact on the game. That is a simple message that we keep talking about and it is always nice to have these type of players waiting to play the game. It was unfortunate that Shubman missed this game, Sarfaraz got the opportunity and he scored a big hundred. It's a good sign for the team."
