Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, who is busy playing in the Global T20, was abused by the fans of his own nation. While travelling after the game, fans waiting outside the team bus targetted the all-rounder during the ongoing political unrest in the country. While the player chose to stay silent, the incident was heartbreaking.

While Shakib has chosen to stay silent regarding the things happening in Bangladesh, the fans brutally abused him for his silence. This isn't the first time fans have disrespected the player. A video went viral on social media where the fans questioned Shakib about the situation back home and then abused him.

Shakib was elected to the National Assembly led by Sheikh Hasina Wazed and hasn't spoken about anything related to the matter. The fans aren't able to digest that the cricketer has chosen not to speak about the country's political condition. Shakib is busy playing for the Montreal Tigers in the Global T20 Canada. Moreover, because of this unrest, the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 Women's tournament might shift from Bangladesh since they had the hosting rights.

Questioning Shakib’s contributions wasn’t appropriate: BCB Chairman

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has taken a stand up for all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan and said that the fans shouldn't have abused him. He has made significant contributions to the game and to the team and, hence, shouldn't be targeted for keeping silent about the political matters happening back home.

"I haven’t seen the video, so it wouldn’t be right for me to comment. However, what he did was certainly not correct. Everyone has contributions in different areas, and questioning Shakib’s contributions wasn’t appropriate," said BCB Chairman Mohammed Jalal Yunus.
