The SA20 tournament is in its final stages of the group phase matches and the top four teams are all set to enter the playoffs. Paarl Royals, MI Cape Town, Joburg Kings and defending champions Sunrisers Eastern Cape will vie for the championship. One of the biggest attractions during the season this year has been the fan catch, which wins a cash prize.
One fan in particular found himself going home with a huge stash of clashes thanks to his amazing effort. The incident happened in the second ball of the sixth over with Trent Boult bowling to Will Jacks. The English batter flicked the ball straight over the backward square leg region for a huge six.
As the ball made its way to the stands, one fan flung himself and dove to claim the catch. After completing the grab, the fan could be spotted celebrating with his mates, as he had won the best catch of the night and also won a huge cash prize.
Dewald Brevis revels after playing match-winning knock for MICT
MI Cape Town beat Pretoria Capitals by 27 runs to secure their second spot in the table. Reeza Hendricks and Dewald Brevis combined to add 142 runs in just 67 balls to help their team score 222 runs on the board. Hendricks was not out on 77 but it was young Dewald Brevis who did the damage with 73, not out from 32 balls. Brevis also bowled one over and gave away 12 runs and picked the wicket of Will Smeed for 52.
The youngster was named man of the match for his efforts with the bat and ball. Speaking at the end of the game, Brevis said, “For us to have a few wins on the bounce and play beautiful cricket—I'm so excited for the boys. I've been working really hard. I have been able to go off and speak to the people that really care. The most important thing is to play with a smile.”
The 21-year-old also said, “I'm playing the way I've played when I was a little boy and got onto the scene. There was a time in my career when I listened quite a bit. You almost try too many things and try to be too clever for the game. But I'm just watching the ball now.”
