The incident happened in the fifth ball of the 14th over, which was bowled by Michael Bracewell to Maxwell. The veteran star was offered a loppy delivery on a length that Maxwell didn’t let go and slammed it over the deep mid-wicket region for a six. That’s when one of the fans standing in the terraces put out his hand and completed the catch.

Glenn Maxwell won the toss and chose to bowl first and saw MI New York score 188 on the board. Quinton de Kock was the best batter for the MI side with 55 runs, which came off 34 balls with seven boundaries and two sixes. Monank Patel batted well to score 32 off 20 balls, while Michael Bracewell was not out on 42 off just 24 balls to help MI score 188 for four from their 20 overs.

Mitchell Owen and Mark Chapman lead Washington to close win

Needing 189 runs to win, Mitchell Owen gave Washington a great start with the bat, scoring 60 off just 26 balls with five boundaries and an equal number of sixes. Owen and Rachin Ravindra added 45 for the first wicket in just 17 balls before Naveen ul Haq dismissed Ravindra for 10.

Sunny Patel then got the wickets of Andries Gous and Owen in successive overs to bring MI back into the contest. Mark Chapman and Jack Edwards then added 41 runs for the fourth wicket in 35 balls to restore order for Washington in their chase. Against the run of play, Michael Bracewell’s smart work ended Jack Edwards’ innings for 30.

Veteran seamer Trent Boult then bowled a perfect yorker to dismiss Glenn Maxwell for 16 runs. The left-arm seamer also dismissed Mukhtar Ahmed for one, while Naveen Ul Haq got the wicket of Obus Pienaar for six runs. By the time Rushil Ugarkar got the wicket of Mark Adair for one, the game was all but done and dusted in favour of Washington.
