The 13th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season saw hosts Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) take on Punjab Kings (PBKS). Having been set 172 runs to win the game, PBKS lost the wicket of opener Priyansh Arya for just eight runs in the fifth ball of the third over. Digvesh Rathi came up with a celebration inspired by former West Indian pacer Kesrick Williams.

Digvesh Rathin bowled a short ball outside the off stump, and the batter went to play a huge shot. Arya couldn’t time the ball and only managed to give Shardul Thakur an easy catch. Once the batter was dismissed, Rathi made his way to Arya and could be seen doing the ‘notebook’ celebration and gave his statement a stare.

The celebration didn’t sit down well with Sunil Gavaskar, who was on commentary duties. India’s former batter questioned the need to pull off the celebration after having dismissed the batter. Earlier in the day, LSG batted first and scored 171 on the board wth Nicholas Pooran top scoring with 44 and Ayush Badoni scoring 41 runs.

Prabhsimran Singh gives PBKS great start with the bat

Punjab Kings opener and wicketkeeper Prabhsimran Singh laid down the marker with the bat early in the first over. The 24-year-old hit Shardul Thakur for one four and followed it up with a six as PBKS scored 12 runs off the first over. Avesh Khan, bowling the second over, gave away eight runs as Singh hit his second boundary of the day in the same over.

Despite losing the wicket of Arya in the third over, Prabhsimran didn’t let the intensity die down. The youngster kept the boundaries flowing as the LSG bowlers were short of ideas. The final over before the powerplay saw the introduction of Ravi Bishnoi as 15 runs were scored off his over to help PBKS reach 62 from their 6 overs.

Prabhsimran Singh hit the leg spinner for two successive fours and followed it up with a six over long-off. By the time the first time-out was taken, PBKS needed 111 runs from 14 overs with Prabhsimran Singh batting on 45 off 20 balls. PBKS skipper Shreyas Iyer was keeping him company on eight runs.
