It was RR who came out to bat first in the tie-breaker with Shimron Hetmyer and Riyan Parag as the batters. Hetmyer and Parag hit two fours before the latter was run out while attempting to steal a single off a wide ball. Yashasvi Jaiswal was also run out in the penultimate ball of the over as RR scored just 11 runs.

Needing 12 runs to win the game, KL Rahul took strike against Sandeep Sharma and took two runs off the first ball. On the second ball, Rahul hit the seamer for a four and turned the strike over to Tristan Stubbs. The South African star hit the ball for a huge six to seal the game and take Delhi to the top of the IPL table.

Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sanju Samson gave RR the perfect start with the bat as the pair added 60 for the first wicket. Samson had to walk off the field injured while attempting to play a shot. Jaiswal scored his second fifty in successive games before he was out for 51 by Kuldeep Yadav.

Nitish Rana then took up the scoring as he scored 51 off just 28 balls with six boundaries and two sixes. Mitchell Starc then turned the game around with the wicket of Rana before Dhruv Jurel and Shimron Hetmyer tried to steady the ship. The pair batted well to take RR closer to the target but couldn’t pull off a win.

Speaking at the end of the game, RR skipper Sanju Samson said, “There were phases when they came hard at us. I would like to give credit to our bowlers and fielders. The energy on the ground was fantastic. I thought that score was chaseable given the batting lineup which we had. The start which we got in the PP. I felt it was definitely a chaseable score."
