Virat Kohli departed, giving Australia the much-needed breakthrough in the ongoing 2nd Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024. Despite playing in Adelaide, where he averages 64, Kohli departed scoring just seven runs in the Pink Ball game. Mitchell Starc claimed his third wicket of the innings with his brilliant bowling. Like always, Kohli was late in withdrawing his bat, leading to the edge.
It was a short-of-length delivery across Kohli and on the fifth-sixth stump line. The ball touched the face of the bat and directly went to Steven Smith, who went down on his knees to catch it. Kohli couldn't believe it, and neither could Smith. The wicket meant a lot to the Australian attack, and they were happy about his dismissal. India went from 69/1 to 81/4 within 20 minutes.

Soon after Kohli's wicket, Shubman Gill followed his path and went back to the pavilion on 31 runs. He was looking set but shuffled across way too much in front of the stumps and was LBW. At tea, India were 82/4 with captain Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant on the crease.

The first session of the second Test match was in favour of Australia. Their prime bowler Mitchell Starc claimed three wickets, but the best would be of Yashasvi Jaiswal, who got out for a golden duck. It wasn't the ball he had anticipated as the ball angled in from over the wicket and swung away late, hitting the pads.
Jaiswal had a chat with KL Rahul before taking the review, but the player was sure that the ball didn't hit the bat, and hence, it was a clear-cut dismissal. Starc was the standout bowler for Australia as he dismissed KL Rahul and Virat Kohli. It was pretty evident that the player was enjoying the conditions with the Pink Ball. Since the Australians are already a step ahead, they will look to bowl out the entire team within 150 runs.
