Chennai Super Kings (CSK) is famous for two things, the first is MS Dhoni and the second is comebacks. MS Dhoni has always been in talks about his retirement plans which he has been avoiding for a couple of years now. This time, considering his condition and the kinds of injuries he has had, seems like IPL 2024 might be his last year and he might announce his retirement soon. While talking about Dhoni's retirement, CSK CEO K.S. Viswanathan said that he had no idea about it but would respect Dhoni's decision.

"I do not know. It is a question only MS [Dhoni] can answer. We have always respected the decisions taken by MS. We have left it to him and as all of you know he has always taken his decisions and announced it at the appropriate time. We do expect that we will get a decision as and when he decides. But we are very hopeful he’ll be available for CSK next year," said K.S. Viswanathan in the video released by CSK.

This year hasn't been great for the team as they couldn't qualify for the playoffs. This was the third time in the team's history that they failed to qualify for the playoffs. With Ruturaj Gaikwad as their new captain, a lot didn't change performance-wise. However, due to a lack of players and injuries, they couldn't qualify for the knockouts.

Ruturaj Gaikwad: A Proven Captain

Before the start of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, MS Dhoni passed the baton of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to the young Ruturaj Gaikwad who had merely a basic idea about this transition. After getting the responsibility of such a great side, any player would lose their balance as a player. In the case of Gaikwad, he turned out to be a lone warrior for the team.

Gaikwad's IPL 2024 performance was appreciation-worthy as he scored 583 runs in 14 innings including one century. He played with an average of 53.00 and a strike rate of 141.16. Moreover, as a captain, he has made some extremely bold and great decisions which benefitted the team very much and it seems like he can manage the team well after MS Dhoni.
