Nathan Ellis was facing Tom Rogers when he launched the ball deep into the stands. The score at that point was reading 43/8 with Hobart in complete disarray. Ellis hit the shot with such ferociousness that the ball travelled deep into the stands. The fans had something to cheer about after witnessing the shambolic batting display by Hobart.

The game on Thursday is the first match of the season for the Hurricanes. On the other hand, the Renegades began their season with a loss. It was Renegades skipper Will Sutherland who won the toss and chose to bowl first. None of the batters from Hobart were able to bat well against the disciplined bowling attack the opposition put out.

Former Australian star Matthew Wade came out to open the batting with Mitchell Owen. The pair got off to a good start as the pair added 15 runs in just 1.4 overs as the Hurricane batters made their intent clear.

Tom Rogers then gave Melbourne Renegades the breakthrough as he dismissed bott the opening batters. Matthew Wade was out for 5 runs caught by Tim Seifert while Mitchell Owen scored 10 runs. Owen gave Fergus O Neill a simple catch to give Rogers his 2nd wicket. Ben McDermott was out for a first ball duck as he became the 3rd wicket for Rogers who was caught by Kane Richardson.

Fergus O Neill then ran through the middle order as he dismissed Nikhil Chaudhary, Tim David, and Chris Jordan in a space of four balls. Skipper Will Sutherland then joined the fun as he dismissed West Indian Shai Hope for 12 and Riley Meredith for a 2nd ball duck. Sutherland’s third wicket was Ellis who was out after scoring 35 while Adam Zampa finished off the innings by dismissing Billy Stanlake for four runs.
