Steven Smith has been great with the bat lately, scoring runs consistently. In the Boxing Day Test match against India, Smith hit a ton and was almost nearly 150 runs when bad luck struck him. He was batting beautifully on 140 runs but Akash Deep dismissed him, which was nothing short of an unfortunate dismissal. It was Smith's 11th century against India in red ball cricket so he would be pretty happy with his performance.
Australia have scored 474 runs in the first innings, thanks to Smith's century and the top order's contributions. They were phenomenal with the bat and have done really well against the Indian bowlers. New come Sam Konstas scored 60 runs in 65 balls while Usman Khawaja scored 57 runs in 121 balls. Marnus Labuschagne chipped in as well with 72 runs off 145 balls including seven boundaries. He played brilliantly throughout the innings.
Jasprit Bumrah claimed four wickets while Ravindra Jadeja took three wickets. Together, they finished the batting up of Australia. However, the batters were phenomenal throughout the innings, helping Australia get to a good total. Now the Indian batters will have to show their intent if they want to win the game.
Yeah, it's been good: Steven Smith
After scoring his century, Steven Smith spoke about how he felt after scoring a ton after so long. His innings was filled with beautiful shots all around the ground. His footwork was excellent and hence, he went on to score 140 runs. However, he was dismissed unfortunately by Akash Deep who is an excellent bowler himself.
"Yeah, it’s been good, had to work hard and sort of early yesterday on the back of some really good work from some of the guys,” said Smith.
