The England cricket team, led by Ben Stokes, beat Zimbabwe by an innings and 45 runs in the only Test match in Nottingham. It was a complete performance from the home team, who had dominated with the bat and ball over the course of three days. Zimbabwe, for their part, put up a decent fight in both innings and played attacking cricket.

The English white-ball skipper pulled off a brilliant catch that left Ben Stokes with his hands on his head. The incident happened in the fourth ball of the 48th over with Stokes bowling to Wesley Madhevere batting on 31. English Test skipper bowled a short ball outside the off-stump that the batter tried to fend. Ball took a thick edge of Madhevere’s bat and was flying over the slips. Harry Brook stuck out his right hand and completed a stunning grab.

Batting first, England had scored 565 on the board before declaring their innings. Ollie Pope was the best batter with 1171,while Zak Crawley (124) and Ben Duckett (140) were the other century makers. Joe Root, also went past the 13,000-run mark during his knock of 34. In reply, Zimbabwe were bundled out for 265 in their first innings with Brian Bennett’s 139 being the top score.

Shoaib Bashir spins England to easy win over Zimbabwe

At the end of the second day’s play, centurion Brian Bennett and skipper Craig Ervine had been dismissed early. Ben Curran and Sean Williams added 122 runs for the third wicket in 151 balls. Williams in particular was aggressive in his approach, scoring 88 off just 82 balls with 16 hits to the fence.

Ben Curran was given out by umpire Kumar Dharmasena before the lunch session. The batter decided to review the call and was found to be not. This evoked a huge celebration from the cricketers mother as older brother Tom Curran was spotted in the crowd watching the game.

Introduction of Shoaib Bashir changed the game as the off-spinner ran through the Zimbabwean batting order. Ben Curran was out after scoring 37 post the lunch break, while Sikandar Raza played an enterprising knock of 60 runs from just 68 balls. Bashir ended with figures of 6/81 from 18 overs to help England win the game with a day to spare.
