English opener Ben Duckett set Adelaide Oval on fire during the game between hosts Adelaide Oval and Melbourne Stars on Friday. The left-handed batter plucked a stunning one-handed catch to dismiss D’Arcy Short that stunned the fans. The incident in the fourth ball of the 15th over with Peter Siddle bowling.

D’Arcy Short got a tempting full ball from Siddle that he drove to carve over the field. Duckett, who was standing inside the circle, jumped up at the right time. The left-handed batter stuck out his right hand and took the catch. The bowler made his way to congratulate Duckett as skipper Marcus Stoinis was left with a shocked expression. 

Adelaide Strikers registered their 1st win of the season as they beat Melbourne Stars by 15 runs. The start to the 2024 Big Bash League has turned into a nightmare for Marcus Stoinis and his team. This is the third successive loss for the Stars, as they now find themselves in the bottom half of the table. 

Melbourne Stars stumble to third loss in succession

Marcus Stoinis won the toss and chose to bowl first, and the Adelaide Strikers scored 165 runs on the board from 20 overs. Both openers Matthew Short and Jake Weatherald scored 11 runs each. Adam Milne got the wicket of Matthew Short, while Glenn Maxwell, making his return to the side, got the huge wicket of Jake Weatherald. 

D’Arcy Short was the best batter for the hosts with 60 runs from 42 balls with 8 fours and 2 sixes. Ollie Pope was out for 8 runs to give Peter Siddle his first wicket of the game. Alex Ross’ 35 off 26 balls with one four and 3 sixes meant that the Strikers ended with 165 runs on their board.

Chasing 166 to win, he lost Ben Duckett out for a golden duck when he fell to Matthew Short. Sam Harper was the best batter for the visitors with 48 runs from 44 balls with 5 hits to the fence and one six. Skipper Marcus Stoinis scored 27 before he was bowled by Cameron Boyce with his very first ball of the spell. 

Tom Curran tried to salvage something for the Stars as he waged a lone battle lower down the order with 25 runs. In the end, the Strikers held on for a win by 15 runs, with Lloyd Pope’s 3/21 being the best figure of the night for the hosts. Matthew Short and Jamie Overton picked 2 wickets each, while Henry Thorton and Cameron Boyce got one wicket each.
