Mohammed Shami bowled a short, wide-ball outside the off-stump in the first ball of the 14th over. Sundar got up on his toes to play the ball to the sweeper cover region as Aniket Verma came running in and put in a full length dive to take the catch. The batter stood waiting for the decision as the catch was sent for checks to the TV umpire.
It was seen that Aniket had taken the catch despite doubts lingering over the legality of the grab. Sundar, had no choice but to head back to the hut after scoring 49 runs with the bat. His knock came off just 29 balls with the help of five boundaries and two sixes. This was also Sundar’s best score in the IPL.
Shubman Gill’s fifty puts Titans on the cusp of a win
Gujarat Titans batter Shubman Gill was at his imperious best with the bat as he scored a crucial fifty for his side. The 25-year-old lost his opening partner Sai Sudharsan for five runs to Mohammed Shami and soon lost Jos Buttler for a duck to Pat Cummins. From 16 for two in the fourth over the third wicket pair of Sundar and Gill added 90 for the third wicket.
Both batters began on a cautious note as they ran well between the wickets. Once the duo got the measure of the pitch, they took full toll of some loose bowling from SRH and hit boundaries at will. Sundar hit two sixes and two fours in a single over from Simarjeet Singh to put the Titans firmly in command of the run chase.
In the third ball of the 13th over, Gill got to his fifty when he hit Zeeshan Ansari for a four. Sherfane Rutherford came to the wicket after the fall of Sundar’s wicket and hit four boundaries in a single over off Abishek Sharma to gather 18 runs from the 15th over to put GT on the cusp of their third successive win in the IPL.
