The fifth game of Major League Cricket (MLC) saw Texas Super Kings take on LA Knight Riders in the first game of the double header weekend on Sunday. Sunil Narine for a second game in succession won the toss and yet again chose to bowl first. Texas had come into the game on the back of their win over MI New York. LAKR on the other hand had lost their previous game by a huge margin.
TSK skipper Faf du Plessis was batting on eight runs off nine balls and had also hit a six in his knock. The opening pair of du Plessis and Devon Conway had added 17 runs inside three overs before LAKR got the big wicket of du Plessis. Andre Russell bowled a perfect yorker that saw the former South African skipper lose his off-stump. It was a huge wicket for the Knight Riders who wanted to make early inroads.
At the end of their 20 overs, TSK scored 181 on the board for the loss of four wickets. The best batter for Texas was Daryl Mitchell who was not out on 36 off 33 balls with two boundaries and a six. Devon Conway was the next best batter with 32 off 22 balls while Donovan Ferriera scored 32 not out off just 16 balls. Tanveer Sangha was the best bowler for LAKR with 2/32 from his four overs.
Noor Ahmad’s four-wicket haul helps TSK win with ease
Chasing 182 runs to win, LAKR lost Andre Fletcher early for two LBW to Adam Milne. Alex Hales and Unmukt Chand tried to build a partnership to put LAKR back on track. Hales was out after scoring 25 while Chand could only score 22 runs as TSK bowlers began to tighten their grip on the game.
Noor Ahmad was the best bowler for TSK taking 4 for 25 from his four overs. His wickets included Nitish Kumar for one and Matthew Tromp for 23. The Afghan spinner also got the wickets of Andre Russell and Sunil Narine with Daryl Mitchell and Noor Ahmad combining to remove both batters. LAKR were all out for 124 runs in the 18th over to lose by 57 runs.
