Adrian Hodstock, the third umpire for Australia vs West Indies in the first Test match, took centre stage on Day 2 of the series opener because of the several contentious calls that may have altered the outcome of the contest at Kensington Oval.
The low catch of Shai Hope by Alex Carey was the high point of these choices. After Hope scored 48 runs, he was removed, and Carey, diving to his left on the inside edge, made a low one-handed grab to start celebrating. Carey made the low catch, but the video showed that the ball had touched the ground because the on-field umpires wanted Holdstock to look at the catch. Darren Sammy, the head coach of the West Indies, was unhappy with Holdstock’s decision.

When Travis Head was caught in Shamar Joseph’s over by West Indies wicketkeeper Shai Hope on Day 1, he was in a similar situation. In the replay, third umpire Adrian Holdstock stated that the ball went straight into Hope’s gloves since he couldn't find any clear footage. When Roston Chase was dismissed for LBW against the Windies, even though the third umpire had previously given him a lifeline that had left the visitors astonished, another contentious judgement was made.
Australia was up by 82 runs in the second innings and was 92/4 at the stumps as the current match was about to end in three days. In a meeting with match referee Javagal Srinath, West Indies head coach and former captain Darren Sammy expressed his displeasure with the decisions made by on-field umpire Adrian Holdstock on the second day of the first Test match against Australia.

It's frustrating – Daren Sammy expresses his thoughts on the decision
Daren Sammy addressed his concerns with umpire Adrian Holdstock and demanded more consistency from the match officials in a statement following the day’s action. “We are just trying to find some sort of understanding as to what the process is. We only hope for consistency. That’s all we could ask for. When there is doubt about something, just be consistent across the board,” Sammy told ESPNcricinfo.
"I have noticed, especially with this particular umpire, it's something that, for me, started in England. It's frustrating. I just ask for consistency in the decision-making," he added.
