Washington Sundar called up by Indian selectors for 2nd Test vs New Zealand in Pune

Indian cricket star Washington Sundar has reportedly been called up for the second Test versus New Zealand set to be played in Pune on Thursday

Young all-rounder Washington Sundar has been called up to the Indian squad as per Express Sports. The 25-year-old has been included in the team for the upcoming Pune Test match versus New Zealand which is slated to begin on Thursday. It isn’t clear who the 25-year-old will replace in the Indian team for the game. 

Washington Sundar has been in tremendous form in the ongoing Ranji Trophy tournament. The left-handed batter scored 152 for Tamil Nadu against New Delhi at the Arun Jaitley stadium. The 25-year-old’s knock came off 269 balls with 19 fours and one six as Tamil Nadu scored 674/6 declared from 159 overs. 

Till now Washington Sundar has played 4 Test matches and scored 265 runs with 3 fifties. Sundar made his Test debut against Australia in Brisbane where he scored a fifty. His best score of 96 came during his last appearance for India in the longest format of the game against England in Ahmedabad. The youngster has also picked 6 wickets with a best of 3/89. 

Washington Sundar posts timely reminder to selectors

After his century against New Delhi, the young Indian star spoke to the media. As per ESPNCRICINFO, Washington Sundar said, “It was a decision by the management, and I am grateful for the opportunity.  knew it was going to be a good opportunity for me to bat at No. 3 and I am glad I was able to contribute.”

The youngster during his chat with the media added, “I definitely consider myself a top-order batter. I'm very happy with the kind of opportunity I got, to bat at No. 3. For me, one thing is very important - I need to be able to do whatever the team demands. It is a team game. That is what I always think about. Hopefully, I can deliver such knocks consistently."

The media asked Sundar if he was comfortable batting in the number 3 spot, the left-handed batter replied, “I have been feeling very confident about my skills and how I have been batting in the last few years especially. I have just been trying to focus on what the team demands me to do, no matter what the situation is. But batting at the top of the order is a lot of fun."
