The right-handed batter said “I want to get into the Proteas squad, to be an all-format player. I want to be the best Dewald Brevis, play with a smile, enjoy the game and do my best. If I do that and put in the hard work, I know what will happen”

When he first made way with the bat during the under-19 World Cup in 2022, he was compared to AB De Villiers. The young batter also earned a contract with Mumbai Indians in the IPL but hasn’t shown consistency with the bat so far.

Speaking to the Sunday Times, Dewald Brevis also said, “It’s interesting – I’m never happy or satisfied with my performance, I feel that’s dangerous. When you think you’ve made it or you’ve achieved something great, the game will bring you back down to earth very quickly. I’m always in competition with myself.”

The young batter also added, “I know exactly what I want. I want to inspire people. I want to be the best cricketer that has ever lived. I will do whatever it takes to do that. I want to be noticed as an all-rounder. Not just as a batter, I hope in the new season I got more opportunities with the ball.”

South Africa won the final ODI against South Africa to end the series and avoid potential whitewash. Afghanistan batted first and were bowled out for 169. Rahmanullah Gurbaz was the best batter with 89 while Allah Ghazanfar scored 31. In reply, South Africa won the game by 7 wickets with 17 overs to spare. Aiden Markram was the best batter with 69 not out.

Temba Bavuma speaking at the end of the game said “Quite happy with the performance in this game. We did well with the ball to take 10 wickets and we were clinical with the bat. In terms of how the series went, we need to make a lot of improvements. Myself and Tony had to take care of the powerplay. Unfortunately, we lost two wickets in 12 overs. There was a little help with the dew”
