'Want Dhoni but he...'- Chennai Super Kings CEO keeps fans guessing about former skipper’s status for IPL 2025

With the retention list for IPL 2025 set to be announced on October 31st, fans are still in the dark about MS Dhoni’s plans. The former India and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) legend hasn’t yet clarified if he plans to play in IPL 2025. Recently, Chennai Super Kings CEO Kasi Viswanathan was part of a Sports Vikatan event. 

CSK’s CEO said during the event “We want Dhoni to play for CSK but he hasn’t confirmed it to us yet. Dhoni will inform about his decision before October 31. We hope that he agrees to play”. This could cause huge panic across the Chennai fanbase about their favourite Thala playing one more season. 

According to reports carried by Times of India, MS Dhoni could get INR 4 Crores as an uncapped player. The move comes after BCCI decided to announce that the players who haven’t played for the national side for 5 years or more will be considered uncapped players. 

Shivam Dube set to be retained by CSK for IPL 2025

T20 World Cup winner Shivam Dube is the favourite to be retained by Chennai Super Kings. According to the Times of India, the all-rounder will be playing in the yellows of Chennai next season as the management feels he is a key part of their side. Sri Lanka pace ace Matheesha Pathirana is another player set to be retained for the coming season.

Times of India also reported that Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ravindra Jadeja are set to be the top retained stars. Ravindra Jadeja has been a CSK regular since his move to the team in 2012 and even captained the side briefly during the IPL 2022 season. The 35-year-old is currently just playing the Test and ODI formats for India having retired from T20I cricket. 

Skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad is expected to fetch top bucks as a retained star ahead of the huge auction. The 27-year-old was given the captaincy before the start of IPL 2024 after Dhoni decided to step down for good. Chennai who came into the tournament as the defending champions didn’t make it to the playoffs after losing to RCB in the final league match of the season.
