Legendary sprinter Usain Bolt is gearing up for the T20 World Cup 2024. The Jamaican was named as the brand ambassador for the tournament by the International Cricket Council last month.

Bolt recently, while speaking to the media, mentioned his love for the game of cricket. Apart from his huge admiration for Manchester United, Usain Bolt also has a huge affinity for cricket due to his father.

While speaking to the PTI recently, Usain Bolt said, “I grew up on cricket, my father was a massive cricket fan and still is. It is something that I always have in my blood. To get to be part of cricket again as an ambassador is wonderful. I never got to live my dream of being a cricketer so to be an ambassador of the T20 World Cup is wonderful.”

Usain Bolt praises Virat Kohli ahead of the mega event

Indian Cricket fans are waiting eagerly for the tournament to begin and watch their favourite stars in action. One huge name who will be part of the T20 World Cup is former India skipper Virat Kohli.

Usain Bolt was in praise for the 35-year-old and compared him to some legendary names. During his chat with PTI, Usain Bolt said, “Over the years, one of my favourites growing up was Wasim Akram because of the in-swinging yorker that he had. Of course, Courtney Walsh and Curtly Ambrose, all these guys that I admired over the years, they were so dominant in their space.”

The sprinter also said, “Like my father, I always support the West Indies (laughs). But yes, I have also been a Sachin Tendulkar fan. He and Brian Lara were part of my life growing up. It was a great rivalry," he said referring to the two legendary batters, Kohli is the standout one for sure.”

Virat Kohli has been in tremendous form with the bat during the Indian Premier League 2024 season. The former India and RCB skipper has scored over 600 runs including a century to dominate attacks during the season.

When asked which team would win the World Cup, there were no surprises as Usain Bolt named West Indies as his favourites. “I’ll always go with my home team. Because we have some big hitters, if we get it right, then West Indies can win.”
