Delhi Capitals took on the Chennai Super Kings in the 13th match of the ongoing Indian Premier League 2024. ACA-VDCA Stadium in Vishakhapatnam hosted this match as a home ground for Rishabh Pant-led Delhi Capitals. The hosts’ skipper won the toss and opted to bat first against the mighty CSK.
Batting first, DC’s newly formed opening pair in the ongoing IPL 2024, David Warner and Prithvi Shaw provided a strong and fiery opening start of 93 runs for the first wicket in 9.3 overs. Prithvi Shaw scored 43 runs off just 27 balls, with 4 fours and 2 sixes. His opening partner and the veteran Southpaw, David Warner scored a crucial half-century, hitting 52 runs off 35 balls, with 5 fours and 3 sixes.
Later, skipper Rishabh Pant came to bat at number 3 and played an important half-century knock, scoring 51 runs off 32 balls, with 4 fours and 3 sixes. On the back of these knocks, Delhi Capitals managed to post a good total of 191 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in the allotted 20 overs.
Young CSK pacer Matheesha Pathirana scalped 3 wickets at the cost of 31 runs in his quota of 4 overs, alongside one wicket each picked by Mustafizur Rahman and Ravindra Jadeja.
CSK failed to crack the 'DC bowling' code in run-chase
While chasing the target, the CSK faced trouble at the beginning of their run-chase as they lost their first two wickets at the score of just 7 runs in 2.5 overs. Both openers, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Rachin Ravindra went back to the pavilion on the individual scores of 1 and 2 runs, respectively.
The veteran batter Ajinkya Rahane scored a crucial knock of 45 runs off 30 balls, with 5 fours and 2 sixes followed by Daryl Mitchell’s 34 runs off 26 balls, with a four and 2 sixes. In another amazing effort, CSK skipper MS Dhoni also played a fiery and unbeaten knock of 37 runs off just 16 balls with 4 fours and 3 sixes.
However, these knocks couldn’t help CSK chase down the target and they fell 21 runs short of the target. CSK could score only 171 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in the entire 20 overs. Eventually, DC won by 20 runs to register their first win in the tournament.
Mukesh Kumar bowled brilliantly and scalped 3 wickets just at the cost of 21 runs in his 3 overs for DC; Khaleel also bagged two wickets just at the cost of 21 runs in his 4 overs, including one maiden over. Apart from these two, Axar Patel also picked one wicket.
