Shakib Al Hasan is Bangladesh's one of the best all-rounders and has been in the No.1 position in the rankings for quite a long time. However, he has been prone to controversies throughout his career. Shakib has been a part of franchise cricket and plays worldwide. For the upcoming Pakistan series, Shakib will be a part of the team as confirmed by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).
In IPL, he was a part of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) as well. He is an experienced player who has played quality cricket throughout his life. Even though he has played some great cricket matches, people remember him for his controversies.
Let's discuss the five controversies where Shakid Al Hasan was involved:
1. Refused to come for Super Over
Recently during the eliminator of Global T20 Canada, Shakib Al Hasan was the skipper of the Bangla Tigers Mississauga. Their match was against the Toronto Nationals where the entire game was washed away due to rain. However, the officials decided to go for a Super Over since some time was left. But Shakib refused to play the Super Over and didn't come out for the toss. As per the captain, there was no point of conducting the Super Over as they were directly getting qualified for the Qualifier 2. It was a debatable topic, with many people in his favour and some against his decision.
2. Inappropriate Gesture
Shakib showed his crotch after his dismissal when the cameras focused on him in 2014. The match was against Sri Lanka where the batter was dismissed on just 24 runs. Out of frustration, he made a wrong gesture which was heavily criticised since cameras showed the batters after getting dismissed. For this, he was banned from a match and received a fine of $3800.
3. Abusing the umpire
During a Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) match, Shakib abused the home umpire for not giving out on appeal. The umpires didn't take it lightly and banned him from one match including a fine of $250. He was absolutely frustrated with the umpire and hurled some words towards him.
4. Announced retirement on Text
In 2014, Shakib decided to quit cricket and informed coach Chandika Hathurusingha via a text. He was asked by the BCB to attend the meeting but he couldn't because he was playing for West Indies in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2014. After that, he was banned from playing in Bangladesh for six months on grounds of 'serious misbehaviour'.
5. Misbehavior during match
During the Nidahas Trophy game between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, there was commotion on a no-ball decision which was reversed by the umpire. However, before that Shakib called his batters back and asked them to not play until the umpires reached a decision. Although Bangladesh won the game, the dressing room atmosphere became worse as a glass door was broken during the entire process.
