England's star batter, Joe Root has been exceptional in red-ball cricket with his consistent performance. In the recently ended Test match against Sri Lanka, Root hammered two consecutive centuries in two innings, which was unbelievable. In the first innings, he scored 143 runs, and in the 2nd innings, he scored 103 runs. He was the backbone of the English batting order and one of the main reasons behind their wins in the recent series.

Root is an outstanding player when it comes to red-ball cricket. He plays the game with utmost concentration and hits the loose balls that need to be shot. He is currently the top-ranked player in Test cricket due to his consistent efforts and the ability to convert half-centuries into centuries. Root is a classical batter with beautiful gameplay and fantastic shot selection, and that's why he has had a lot of success in the format. There are a few records that Root can break in the future.

Let's shed light on three records Joe Root might break in Test cricket:

1. Become the highest run-scorer in Test cricket:

Currently, Joe Root is the 2nd highest run-scorer in Test cricket after Sachin Tendulkar. He has scored 12377 runs in 145 matches. Moreover, Sachin Tendulkar played 200 Test matches and scored 15921 runs. Root is just 3544 runs away from surpassing Sachin to become the highest run-scorer in red-ball cricket.

2. Most Test appearances:

The 33-year-old Joe Root has played 145 Test matches and has the potential to play the most number of matches in the format. Currently, Sachin Tendulkar has played the highest number of matches, 200, in red-ball cricket. If Root manages to play for 3-4 years more, he'll be able to cross the 200-mark. Since England plays a lot of Test matches, it's easier for Root to break Sachin's record.

3.  Most Test centuries

The former England captain has scored 34 centuries in Test cricket so far, and he will definitely look to become the player with the most Test centuries. However, the task is not going to be easy for him as the 'Master Blaster' Sachin Tendulkar is sitting at the top with a record of 51 centuries in 200 test matches.
