'There was no need....' - Former Australian batter bashes Sam Konstas for getting involved in fight with Jasprit Bumrah in fifth Test match

Former Australian batter Mark Waugh bashed young Sam Konstas for getting involved in a fight with Jasprit Bumrah during the fifth Test match. Only playing his second game in Tests, Konstas has been quite chirpy on the field. He had a fight with Virat Kohli in the previous game and now had Bumrah riled up, which is a rare sight. Hence, the former player wasn't impressed with the unnecessary chirping done by Konstas. 

"You can understand Usman Khawaja trying to wind the clock down so he didn’t have to face another over, but then you have got Sam Konstas trying to get involved. I don’t know whether it is naive enthusiasm or that’s just the way he has always played his game through the juniors and likes to have high energy and get involved in the game, but really there was no need for Sam to get involved there," said Mark Waugh on Fox Sports.

After scoring 60 runs in the first game of his career, Konstas has failed to shine in the next two innings. While the player's batting approach and confidence look promising, controlling his emotions on the field will help him in the long run.

You don’t want to fire him up: Mark Waugh

Mark Waugh also spoke about how disappointing it was to see Konstas firing up Bumrah during the game. The ace India pacer is the best in the business and has been successful in the series as well and getting on nerves on a fast bowler like Bumrah can be very dangerous for the Australian batters. 

"If he keeps behaving like that he is going to have a target on his back for his whole career. I just think he is firing the opposition up. He’s fired up Jasprit. You don’t want to fire him up. I think Sam will reflect on that and think he should have minded his own business. I have just got to let the bat do the talking," added Waugh.
