Karun Nair finally broke his silence on his Champions Trophy 2025 snub after BCCI announced the team on January 18. After scoring tons of runs in the recently concluded Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025, Nair wasn't included in the team. Well, Captain Rohit Sharma addressed this in the presser and said the team currently has some of the best players who have scored runs in the past, and dropping them wouldn't have been a good idea.
While having a chat with the Hindustan Times, Karun Nair opened up about his thoughts and dreams of coming back to the Indian team. The player didn't say any negative things about the management but rather said he just keeps himself motivated. He scored 779 runs in eight innings, at an average of 389.50, which is historic. He hit five centuries as well.
"Obviously, the possibility of an India comeback has to be on your mind. If you want to play for the country, you have to keep dreaming. There are these thoughts and dreams in the head, but that’s just motivation. The mindset comes from the hunger to keep getting better every single day when I go out to play. To not be happy with what you’ve done in the past, but to keep looking forward to doing better in the future," said Nair in an interview with the Hindustan Times.
It was crazy, almost surreal: Karun Nair
Karun Nair shared in the interview about the feeling when he scored those centuries and what went on in his mind after that. He was playing for Karnataka in the VHT 2025 and helped them claim the title as well. Nair made it clear that he wants to keep performing, which will open the path for him into the Indian team.
"Whenever I got a hundred, I used to think ‘Oh my God, what’s happening!?’ It was crazy, almost surreal. Something I have not experienced before but something that I’ll keep very close to myself. I want to keep repeating that feeling over and over again," added Nair in the aforementioned interview.
