Delhi Capitals missed the services of the skipper and star all-rounder, Axar Patel, in their must-win clash against Mumbai Indians. The Capitals happened to lose the game by a big margin of 59 runs and were eliminated from the tournament. In the absence of the regular skipper, the team was captained by the vice-captain, Faf du Plessis, in the game against MI.
Meanwhile, the assistant coach of the Delhi Capitals, Matthew Mott, recently came up with an update on Axar Patel’s niggle and the possibilities of his availability for the next game against Punjab Kings. Notably, it will be the last league match of DC’s campaign in the ongoing IPL 2025.
He’s had a pretty rugged time – Matthew Mott
Assistant coach Mott spoke about the unavailability of Axar Patel in the training sessions and also briefed on whether he will be available to play against PBKS or not.
“The honest answer is I don’t fully know. He’s not training today. But, we’ll find out when we get back there today. Obviously, he wasn’t well the other day. He’s had a pretty rugged time with a few different little niggle and injuries. I’m sure he’s motivated to come out and play, but we’ll probably know a little bit more tonight when we go back and see the medical stuff,” said Mott during the pre-match press conference ahead of the game against Punjab.Kings
Speaking of Axar Patel’s performance for DC in the tournament’s current edition so far, he has scored 263 runs in 11 innings, with an average of 26.30, including the best knock of ’43 runs in a game.’ Besides that, he has also scalped 5 wickets with the ball in 11 innings.
However, Delhi Capitals haven’t had the journey they would’ve expected after the four consecutive wins in the ongoing 18th edition. Their journey ended up in an unfortunate elimination, with four defeats in their last five games.
