Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) didn't retain their skipper Faf du Plessis before the Indian Premier League (IPL) mega auction and neither did they go after him in the auction. With this move, it was clear that the franchise was looking for someone else to become their captain for the upcoming seasons.

However, the RCB fans are eagerly waiting for the day and the announcement of Virat Kohli getting back as the captain of the team. Kohli gave up the captaincy after the 2021 season. Reportedly, the pressure of not winning a trophy grew on him which led to this decision. However, the franchise has retained Kohli at a whopping amount of INR 21 crores. This surely seems like the management is leaning towards giving him the captaincy.

When asked about it to their head coach Andy Flower, he kept the anticipation going, saying 'that communication hasn't happened yet.' He asked the RCB fans to wait and see what happens next. "Well, you're going to have to wait for the outcome. It's a new era that we are going into, the start of a three-year cycle, and I'm sure the anticipation will be good for you. You can ask me as often as you like, but that communication has not happened yet," said Andy Flower during the ILT 2025.

Virat Kohli's drip in performance is a concern for India

India's former captain Virat Kohli is going through a rough patch in his cricket career. The stellar batter hasn't performed in any of the games in the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024 except for the first match in Perth. This is a rare occasion where Kohli didn't score runs in an entire series.

The player kept losing wickets to outside off-stump balls and didn't make an effort to rectify his mistakes in all the matches he played during the series. He became a simple wicket for Australia, a player who doesn't bother the scorecards much. Well, the enthusiasm and aggression in him is intact but the scores aren't flowing easily. Considering the upcoming busy season, his form has become concerning for the team.
