In the ongoing Asia qualifier for the 2026 Women's T20 World Cup in Thailand, a bizarre incident took place between the UAE and Qatar. UAE players applied their right minds to dodge the possibility of rain and retired out 'ten' batters in the game. They came to bat first, and the opening pair scored 192-0 in 16 overs against Qatar, thanks to captain Esha Oza on 113 and left-hander Theertha Satish 74. After reaching a good point in the game, they retired on their own.

What happened next was bizarre and happened for the first time in the history of T20 cricket. As per the coach's orders, all the batters came in and retired out themselves. This made the scoreboard look odd, but it was a tactical move from the management. This was an important game for the UAE, and they had to win it at any cost. The rain interruption would have halted their hopes of reaching the stage.

The UAE bowlers were successful in bowling out Qatar for just 29 runs in 11.1 overs. Hence, they won by 163 runs. Michelle Botha claimed three wickets and conceded just 11 runs. Her contributions were one of the main reasons behind the UAE's victory in the game.

Coach Ahmed Raza's mindful act helped the UAE win the game

To win any match, a coach's contribution is extremely valuable. UAE's coach, Ahmed Raza, proved it right in the ongoing tournament. When they saw that the rains could interrupt the game, Raza went through different ways and spoke to the umpires and the match officials. Finally, they reached a conclusion that retiring out the players would be the best possible way to win the match.

"Whilst the innings was going on, we started hearing thunder and slight drizzle started. I went to the umpires and checked whether we could declare but in white-ball cricket you can not declare. I then asked the match referee if I could retire my whole team out. With the thunder and drizzle, we just had to make sure the whole game was played because the weather has been around," said Raza after the match.
