T20 World Cup 2024: 'We want to assure all stakeholders that...' - Cricket West Indies to monitor security closely owing to 'Terror threats' on tournament

In what seems to be an utter shock and unexpected turn of events for cricket fans, the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in the USA and West Indies received ‘terror threats’ from North Pakistan. The motive behind these threats is to disrupt the prestigious cricket biennial, set to be hosted jointly by the USA and WI.

Meanwhile, the CEO of Cricket West Indies (CWI), Johnny Graves came up with an official statement, in which he assured all the stakeholders that the hosts’ Cricket Board is closely monitoring all the security points and is set to deal with all kinds of the situation with every possible step to ensure the security of the tournament and all the participating teams.

“Pro-Islamic State (IS) media sources have launched campaigns inciting violence against sporting events, which included video messages from the Afghanistan-Pakistan branch, IS Khorasan (IS-K) which highlighted assaults in numerous countries and urged supporters to join the battlefield in their countries,” read the security alert, reported by Cricbuzz.

Furthermore, CWI CEO, Johnny Graves also spoke to Cricbuzz regarding the same concern and communicated the hosts’ plans to deal with any security situation to conduct the tournament without any hindrance.

“We work closely with authorities in the host countries and cities and continually monitor and evaluate the global landscape to ensure appropriate plans are in place to mitigate any risks identified to our event,” said Johnny Graves to Cricbuzz.

“We want to assure all stakeholders that the safety and security of everyone at the ICC Men's T20 World Cup is our number one priority, and we have a comprehensive and robust security plan in place.”

Notably, the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 will be the first ICC tournament to be played in the Caribbean Islands in the last 14 years since the ICC T20 World Cup 2010 was played here. It was England who clinched the trophy when the tournament when West Indies hosted the tournament last time in 2010.
