Afghanistan have created history by winning the match against Bangladesh and qualifying for the semifinals for the first time in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup. They will be playing against South Africa in the semifinals on June 27. Afghanistan's tournament so far has been so good, as they have defeated New Zealand and Australia to reach this position. They have maintained the highest level of consistency, which some teams can only dream of.

The match against South Africa might not be easy, but Afghanistan's sheer confidence will definitely lead the way against the Proteas. Moreover, there are several other reasons why Afghanistan has the upper hand over South Africa, and we'll discuss them in the article below.

Here are the three reasons why Afghanistan has the upper hand on South Africa in the T20 WC 2024 semifinals:

1. Afghanistan's spin-combination in unison:

Afghanistan team is famous for their spin combinations, which include the great Rashid Khan, Mohammed Nabi, and Noor Ahmed. They have played some great games and have taken essential breakthroughs whenever possible. All three players have the potential to improve their game in the upcoming matches, which will help the team. Against South Africa, if the spin attack performs well, they'll definitely win the game.

2. South Africa's batting is still a concern:

In all the games, South Africa's batting struggled and depended mostly upon David Miller and Quinton de Kock. Skipper Aiden Markram and Henrich Klaasen have failed to perform in most of the games which is the main reason why they struggled during the batting. While chasing scores like 80-90 runs, they didn't bat confidently and in front of Afghanistan's bowling attack, South Africa might give up sooner than expected.

3. SA's choking record in high-voltage knockout clashes:

South Africa has a weird record under their name which is choking in high-voltage knockout clashes. They have played multiple matches in the ICC tournament's knockout games but haven't won a single final yet. Even in the 2015 OD WC semifinals, they lost the match against New Zealand which was supposed to be an easy win for the Proteas. Hence, there is a high chance of them choking against Afghanistan as well considering the amazing bowling attack Afghanistan has.
